Concert Band
The Gull Lake Concert Band is composed of instrumental students of all proficiency levels. Unlike the audition-only Symphonic Band, the Concert Band is open to all students who have successfully completed a Middle School (grades 6 - 7 - 8) band program. At the discretion of the Band Director, students who have not participated in Middle School band may be admitted to Concert Band following an audition; please contact Mrs. Peters for more information. The Concert Band is a graded class, meeting daily during the second and third trimesters, and performs various concerts throughout the school year as well as adjudicated events, such as MSBOA District XI Festival.
Instrumental students must participate in at least one trimester of Concert or Symphonic Band during the school year to be eligible for the Marching Band the following fall. Students who wish to march with a secondary instrument must make prior arrangements with Mrs. Peters; approvals for secondary instruments are at the discretion of the Band Director. Any student who who is approved to march with a secondary instrument will return to their primary instrument for Concert or Symphonic Band.

Have you heard about our BAND messaging system?
We have a messaging system for parents and students, named BAND. It's a free service where we post information about upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, updates to the schedule, and other important information. It's essential during the fall Marching Band season and during concert season for Festival, the Memorial Day parade, and Commencement. We can send out immediate updates to our itinerary that you receive right to your phone. Parents and students may ask and answer questions within their own parent and student groups.
If you're not already signed up, please email Mrs. Stark for an invite code -- [email protected]
It's fast, it's free and it's full of information!
What is Concert Black?

The Gull Lake High School Bands Program
The Gull Lake High School Bands program exemplifies our motto "With Pride!"
GLHS offers students the opportunity to participate in multiple instrumental groups:
- the competitive Blue Devil Marching Band
- the Concert Band
- the placement by audition-only Symphonic Band
- the just-for-fun Pep Band during basketball season
Gull Lake High School Band students are a vital and visible part of our community. Throughout the school year, students perform and entertain the crowds at home varsity football and basketball games, pep assemblies, local parades and concerts. They compete against other Michigan marching bands in MCBA contests, and consistently achieve superior ratings in the fall MSBOA Marching Festival and spring Band and Orchestra Festivals. Many students perform outside of school at events such as District XI and State Solo & Ensemble Festivals and with community groups such as the Kalamazoo Music School Jazz & Creative Institute, the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra, and the WMU Spring Conference All-Star band.
We invite you to attend a concert - cheer us on at a competition - get involved with the GLBPA - and sit back and enjoy the music. The Gull Lake High School Bands program exemplifies our motto "With Pride!"
